Recovering Rare and Precious Metals from Acid Sludge

The method for recovering rare and precious metals from acid sludge comprises the following steps: acid sludge pretreatment, copper recovery, lead recovery, and selenium recovery. This method is particularly applicable to acid sludge with the following component ranges: Pb 30–50%, Se 2–15%, Bi 1–5%, Cu 2–10%, Au 2–10 g/t, and Ag 30–200 g/t.

Copper is recovered through acid sludge washing. After mixed acid leaching, lead-bismuth alloy is produced via pyrometallurgical smelting by leveraging the strong enrichment capacity of lead for gold, silver and bismuth, which maximizes the recovery of rare and precious metals including bismuth, gold and silver. Selenium powder is prepared by sulfur dioxide reduction. Compared with the sodium sulfite process, this method avoids the generation of sodium salt-containing wastewater or sodium sulfate crystals.

The solid waste generated in the process mainly comes from two rounds of solid-liquid separation. The filter residue obtained from solid-liquid separation is rich in lead, which is fed into the pyrometallurgical smelting unit for lead to produce lead-bismuth alloy. Accordingly, the entire process forms a closed circulation system, causes no environmental pollution, reduces production costs, and realizes environment-friendly clean production.
