Recovery Process of Precious Metal Rhodium

A method for removing iron during the recovery of precious metal rhodium comprises the following steps:

Concentrate and incinerate the recovered spent solution of carbonyl(acetylacetonato)(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I) (industry-common abbreviation: Rh(acac)(CO)(PPh₃)) catalyst to obtain a mixture;

Subject the above mixture to chlorination treatment to produce a mixture of rhodium chloride and ferric chloride (iron(III) chloride);

Add chloride salts and hydrochloric acid solution to the mixture of rhodium chloride and ferric chloride. After the reaction is completed, evaporate the system to dryness to prepare a mixture of chlororhodate salts and ferric chloride;

Wash the obtained mixture of chlororhodate salts and ferric chloride with a polar organic solvent to remove ferric chloride;

Process the remaining chlororhodate salts into metallic rhodium or rhodium chloride.

After the spent carbonyl(acetylacetonato)(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I) catalyst solution is concentrated and incinerated, a mixture of solid rhodium and iron oxides is obtained.
